After around 10 minutes of trying to get beyond the Bluetooth connection I finally established a connection between my iPhone and the S1.įrom left to right: the AF mode options, Quick Menu screen in remote shooting mode, accessible recording settings and image selection/rating options Location dataĪdding the time and location is straightforward, and is about as easy as I have found to date on any camera system. Having read some recent reviews of Lumix Sync on the Apple App Store it appears that this isn’t just an isolated issue and other users have experienced similar connection problems when automatically shifting from Bluetooth to Wi-Fi. The connection via Bluetooth was seamless and took a matter of seconds, however when it then switched to wanting a Wi-Fi connection, the process stalled to the point that it gave up and cancelled. Following the very simple and straightforward instructions given in the Lumix Sync app, it took me multiple attempts to connect the camera and phone over Wi-Fi.

However, I did run into some issues when connecting a Panasonic Lumix S1 with an iPhone XS running iOS 13.3.1. I would recommend that setting up via Bluetooth is by far the more preferable option, as it will subsequently be faster to reconnect.

Alternatively for ease of use a QR Code can be displayed on the camera and captured on the smart device. When greater bandwidth is required, such as when using remote shooting or transferring images, the Bluetooth connection can then instruct the camera and smart device to connect via Wi-Fi.įor those who don’t want to connect via Bluetooth, there is the option to use a standard Wi-Fi connection, which can be set up manually using a hotspot and password. The connection that is created allows the smart device to be able to pair quickly and stay connected where necessary for transferring small volumes of data, such as current time or GPS coordinates. As is the standard nowadays, the Lumix Sync app takes advantage of a low energy Bluetooth connection between the smart device and camera. One of the reasons for a completely redesigned app is no doubt to take advantage of connectivity improvements in both cameras and smart devices. – Current app has automatic Wi-Fi connection issues on iOS Panasonic Lumix Sync Connectivity – Only fully compatible with Lumix S-series cameras + Extremely straightforward and well-designed app + 24-million-pixel JPEG transferred in 5 secs (Panasonic LUMIX S1 I fully expect that Panasonic Lumix Sync will now be the default app for all new Panasonic cameras, although I would expect support for the Panasonic Image App to continue for some time yet.

The Panasonic GH5, GH5S and G9 can take advantage of remote recording and image transfer, but don’t offer full compatibility with all of the features. The list of cameras compatible with the app is very limited, with only the S1, S1R and S1H fully supported. As per the earlier Panasonic Image App, the new Panasonic Lumix Sync allows for remote camera control and wireless image transfer between current cameras, such as the Lumix S1, and smartphones and tablets. Like other manufacturers, Panasonic launched a new connectivity app along with its latest generation of mirrorless cameras.
